History Is Lazy Today

The world does what it does
as I do what I do.
Cars and trucks labor across
the highway bridge, birds
display their aerodynamics
over the construction site.

History is lazy today, resting
against a tall building, checking
out well before nightfall. Perhaps
we will be able to sleep
with the bedroom door wide open.
